I have always loved swinging around monkey bars and climbing the walls of my house, but I first started indoor rock climbing at my tenth birthday party. Though initially hesitant, my passion quickly grew, and I joined a competitive climbing team. After jumping between sports my whole childhood, I was happy to find something I genuinely loved and was motivated to compete in.
My six years of competing has brought me up-and-down the East Coast and across the country, especially for USA Climbing Youth Nationals. Outside of formal venues, I go on outdoor climbing trips each summer, with trips to Rocklands, the Lofoten Islands, and Squamish, inspiring the many outdoor climbing goals I hope to pursue after my final year of youth competition ends.
My home gym, GP 81 Youth Training Center in Brooklyn, NY, holds a tight knit community which I can always rely on. I can't wait to be more involved in SYCO and help others experience the same support and sense of community that climbing has given me.

Goldie Kraus 2025–2026
Goldie first started indoor rock climbing when she was seven years old at a classmate's birthday party. From then on, her passion for the sport grew. She began taking classes and then tried out for the competitive team. Her seven years on the team developed a strong sense of enthusiasm and dedication towards competing and eventually took her to USA Climbing Youth Nationals. She had found a love for climbing outdoors as well as coaching kids on the development team and nurturing their love for climbing.
For Goldie, climbing has been both a sport and a place to find community. Her home gym, Movement Valhalla, has a very tight knit community, and she has found that no matter where she travels, every climbing space shares this culture. She hopes that through SYCO, more youth athletes would be able to experience the joy that comes with climbing and its unique and supportive environment. Goldie is now continuing her climbing journey in college and beyond.
Evan Finegan 2025–2026
Evan was a senior at Ardsley High School when he joined SYCO. He started indoor rock climbing after he tagged along with his big brother and a friend for a trip to the climbing gym. Shortly after, he joined The Cliff's (now Movement) recreational team, progressed to their developmental team, and climbed for Movement Valhalla's competitive team. In addition to indoor competitive climbing, Evan still plays saxophone with the Ardsley Wind Ensemble and the Ardsley Jazz Band. A member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society, Evan balanced his academics with a wide range of extra-curricular activities. He was a member of the Ardsley Robotics Team and the Ultimate Frisbee Club, and he was the vice president of Music Selection for More than Mozart, a community outreach music club. He also demonstrated his commitment to community service through volunteering for Ardsley Music Partners and the Ardsley PTSA.
In the summer of 2025, Evan worked at The Rock Club in New Rochelle as a belayer and junior programs counselor. He enjoyed working with young climbers and teaching them new techniques. He was excited to be involved in the formation of SYCO as a founding board member to share both his love of climbing and his commitment to service with the climbing community.
